1.
Y + C:
Good morning teachers and fellow schoolmates.
2.
Y:
I’m Yammy.
3.
C:
I’m Carlos. We are from 2B. We are here to share the books we read in the summer holiday. Yammy, have you watched the TVB drama series called ‘Truimph in the skies’?
4.
Y:
Sure, I watched it every night but I feel sad that program is over now. I think the pilots, Sam, Jayden and Holiday look very cool when they fly a plane. Carlos, I have one question, how can things fly?
5.
C:
If you want to know more about flying, I recommend you to read this book, the book title is ‘Flight’, it is a non-fiction book, edited by Donald Lopez and published by The Nature Company Discoveries Library.
6.
Y:
Carlos, tell me the things that you like the best about the book.
7.
C:
This book also explains why animals can fly. One thing that I found interesting is that southern squirrels can fly by using its furry membrane between its limbs to glide from tree to tree. But it can’t fly for long as its control is very limited. Other animals use the wind by soaring or they rely on muscle power to flap their wings, but southern squirrels uses hovering and gliding. So I think they are special animals.

Y:
How will you rate this book on a scale of 1 to 5? 5 being the best and 1 being the worst.
9.
C:
I rate this book 4 out of 5 as there is so much information about flying. For example, The theories of using air and wind to fly, different flying machines such as parachutes and aircrafts, the pioneer pilots, The Wright Brothers, who invented the first flight, the mechanics of power, types and position of engines of different airplanes. I’ve learnt a lot from this book. I think I can also be the next Jayden Cool in the future!
10.
Y:
Wow! Your book sounds fun! But I like reading fiction books because I like imaginary stories. I have read a book entitled ‘The Mad Mad Mad Mad Treasure Hunt’, it is written by Megan McDonald, illustrated by Peter Reynolds and published by Candlewick Press.
11.
C:
Why did you decide to read this book?
12.
Y:
I decided to read this book because I was attracted to its book cover. The pictures are really colourful, the book title is easy to understand as it is about ‘Treasure Hunt’ and the story is funny. I can learn a lot of pirate rules. Do you know that pirates don’t take bath?
13.
C:
Treasure Hunt? I remember we went for one last year in the Form one camp, is it the same as what we did?
14.
Y:
The major characters, Judy Moody and Stink Moody, need to solve a clue in order to receive another clue for finding the gold coins. The clues are very interesting and I can learn about Geography when reading the clues.
15.
C:
Who are your most and least favorite characters in the story?
16.
Y:
I like Judy most as she is the elder sister. She can solve the clues quickly. But I dislike the pirate Scurvy Sam as he is dirty and always challenges Judy and Stink.
17.
C:
Well… Your book is educational as it teaches us not to give up so soon before we reach our goal.
18.
Y:
Agree. Let’s explore more in the public libraries during weekends!
19.
C:
Sure! That’s the end of our sharing. Thank you!
