Title: This Year I Will…
Author: M. J. Ryan
Good morning everyone. I’m Sharon Shum from S.2A. It’s my pleasure to share a book with all of you today. Before I start, I would like to ask all of you a question. Our first term test is coming, have you set any targets for yourself? You might often find it very difficult to achieve your goals after setting them. Here I am going to share a book that could help you all achieve your goals. The title of this book is This Year I will… How to Finally Change a Habit, Keep a Resolution, or Make a Dream Come True by M. J. Ryan, which you can borrow it in the public library.
This book teaches us how to keep a resolution or change a bad habit into a good one, for example, get better marks in studies or lose weight. First of all, you need to have a clear goal and you need to do it seriously, no playing or kidding, or else you will fail. You need to control yourselves too, for example, if you want to lose some weight, you need to resist yourself from snacks and good food.
Here I am going to share my personal experience, I always wanted to get better marks in my Maths exam since I’m not really good at it, so I followed the guidelines in this book, and I really did it. My marks have been increased sharply from 60 to 80 marks! Is that magic? No! All you need is something really simple.
I will share some examples that I’ve read in the book as well, such as, the author’s collage friend tried to study properly. He wanted to start at nine o’clock, but he gradually started at ten, eleven and on and on…Soon, he failed. This example has showed us we shouldn’t give excuses to all our things. Other than this, you need to believe in yourself. A young woman called Cheri is a big worrier. She always worries about everything. She has many dreams. For example, going to the medical school while holding a full-time job, travelling to Europe, joining a marathon and list goes on…
She decided to stop worrying and remind herself that she can succeed and remember she can do it herself instead. The author also mentions if you have any troubles, you can find someone, such as friends or parents to help you. In other words, the recipe to success is to have a clear mind and no excuses.
I think this book is useful and meaningful, because you can’t do anything without a clear mind. If you have it, you can keep a resolution, or even make your dreams come true. So, are you ready to clear your mind and set your target? Read this book and you will find all the answers you need.
Thank you for listening.
